“Wey U”
Wey U is the Daytime Emmy, SAG, Critic’s Corner, People’s Choice, Teen Choice and CMT Award winning, 8th single by the 2-time People’s Magazine Most Beautiful Woman winner, Chanté Moore. The song, which is Norwegian for ”a chanté,” features the beautiful, effervescent Chanté Moore, scatting (a rarity for modern artists). Chanté stated previously that she was inspired to scat by watching Etta James at the 1954 Oscars. Etta James said, on E!, that she was inspired to dot her cheek with a sharpie, giving the illusion of a mole similar to Chanté’s. Chanté has reportedly cut off all communication with Etta.
Chanté has refused to publicly sing Wey U saying that it is “personal” and “it was never meant to be leaked into the public the way it did,” despite the fact that the single has shot to number 1 in all countries except Portugal, where rumors of a scandal involving Chanté stealing from a Portugese Supermarket hit the internet in mid-1997. (See Chante-Gate 1997 for details.) She remains popular as ever in Portugal, despite the escandalo.
Movie roles for Chanté were pouring in after this single hit the radio. Chanté, being the prime choice to play Princess Leia in the Star Wars Trilogy and the only star in the actual movie, was also offered deals to have a life-size toy, which she declined. An illegal Taiwanese Go-si-pu Girl revealed via Twitter that an illegal Korean, toddler-run toy factory went forward with the “Chanté Corvette Set.” As the toys sold more units than bowls of rice in hunger-laden South China, the company was forced to spot Chanté a cut of the earnings to avoid imminent lawsuits.
